Melissa Lorraine Orive is a Fraud Examiner and a Rio Grande Valley community leader. Lorraine is the owner of A Paper Trail, LLC, a consulting business specializing in fraud investigation and prevention, financial analysis, internal control evaluation, and litigation support on financial matters.

Lorraine’s professional experience includes six years as an Administrative Manager for NVS Corporate Services, Inc. and two years as an Executive Administrator for BFF Nations, LLC. Within these organizations, Lorraine managed all aspects of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly reconciliations. She managed Human Resources duties for up to 70 employees and supervised up to thirty-five employees at ten facilities throughout Texas. Lorraine was successful at designing and leveraging systems that ran efficient office operations at both organizations. Her vast experience was instrumental in the formation of her business.

In 2018, Lorraine founded A Paper Trail, LLC, where she is responsible for evaluating the circumstances of suspected fraud cases and making recommendations about future measures. Her investigative process usually includes gathering financial records, sorting out documents, interviewing key personnel, providing recommendations based on her findings, and preparing evidence for presentation in court. She works with different organizations, including small businesses, non-profit groups, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and financial institutions. Lorraine enjoys educating individuals in having better policies and internal controls. She gets most excited by working backwards and figuring out where something might have gone wrong.

Lorraine has a Masters in Business Administration with a major in Management from the University of Texas at Brownsville. She holds a Private Investigator license from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Lorraine is also a Certified Fraud Examiner, an internationally recognized certification granted to individuals that have a comprehensive knowledge of complex financial transactions with an understanding of methods, laws, and fraud.  A Paper Trail, LLC, is a designated Woman Owned Small Business by the Small Business Administration.

Lorraine’s dedication to the community has catapulted her into many leadership positions. She is a member of the Lower Valley Chapter of Society of Human Resource Managers, a member of FemCity in Harlingen, and a Sustaining Member of the Brownsville Junior Service League also known as SPARS. Lorraine served as the President and Chapter Training Director of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of Association of Certified Fraud Examiners from 2019-2022. Through this organization, Lorraine supported industry professionals by providing access to knowledge, resources, and training needed to do their jobs now and in future stages of their careers.

Lorraine’s curious nature has her on a life-long pursuit for knowledge and is continuously learning through audiobooks, podcasts, articles, and through other people. She enjoys the simple pleasures of sending snail mail, using a paper agenda, and taking a walk. When she finds time in her schedule, she likes to travel to different places but thinks Paris is always a good idea. Lorraine resides in Harlingen, Texas.
